It may be Toronto Star writer Damien Cox is unaccustomed to seeing good hockey, covering as he has for years the Toronto Maple Leafs. Certainly intense hockey of the kind played in the Stanley Cup playoffs he's missed, the Leafs not having managed the postseason since...2004?
On June 7, 2011, Cox wrote a 2nd straight column after a 2011 Stanley Cup Final game critical of the Vancouver Canucks. Fair enough but his relationship to his facts seems as important to Cox as Charlie Sheen's relationship to his sanity. Further, in his post-game 3 column he wrote that Canuck players try to intentionally injure opposing players, a baseless accusation that attacks the integrity of the entire Canucks organization.
Cox Calls Rome Hit "Vicious Head Shot"
After accusing Vancouver of trying to draw penalties by faking reactions - even Edmonton Oiler Ryan Whitney, who does not like the Canucks, admitted they don't do that - Cox then leveled both barrels at Vancouver. He wrote "...in these playoffs (they) have also demonstrated a clear willingness to do just about anything to not only win, but eliminate key personnel from the opposing team."
