Loyal viewers of the television crime-comedy show Psych know to expect witty and charming dialogue, as well as mystery, in each episode that USA Networks produce. The main storyline of the show follows Shawn, who poses as a psychic detective, and his friend Gus. Together, they own a business called Psych, in which they lend their services to the Santa Barbara police department in California. Each episode focuses on a crime (anything from grand theft to murder) that Gus and Shawn attempt to solve using their odd investigating skills.

Shawn Spencer learned his police knowledge from his father, Henry, a former police officer with the Santa Barbara police department. The unique tricks and insight Henry taught his only child from a young age have helped Shawn notice things that others would not. This, coincidentally, led officers to believe he was psychic in the first place. His uncanny ability to decipher clues and notice shreds of evidence where officers may not, has led the Psych team to become permanent consultants at the police department.
