The United Kingdom’s Office for National Statistics announced on 16 February 2011 that the rate of under employment – the number of people who are working part-time because they could not find a full-time job – reached 1.19 million, the highest figure since comparable records began in 1992.
In the three months to December 2010, the under employment rate increased by 44,000 people and includes both employees and people who are self employed. The total number of self employed people fell by 49,000 to reach 3.98 million.
